ANTONIO POCE
Visual Artist
Antonio Poce is a composer and a visual artist. For many years he has integrated music creation with video scripts and graphic arts. After high school he studied composition with Ennio Morricone, Domenico Guaccero and Salvatore Sciarrino.
He got a University Degree in Literature at Sapienza University of Rome with a final thesis on contemporary music language.
Initiator and Artistic Director of Europa Festival (1994-2001), he has given an outstanding contribution to the innovation of Italian artistic programs inviting many influential artists to produce “flash-works”, i. e. original works known for their progressive combination of music, poetry and visual arts.
In 1997, in collaboration with Giovanni Fontana, Giampiero Gemini and Valerio Murat, he founded the group “Hermes Intermedia” which soon gained a leading role in the renewal of audiovisual language.
In 2022, with Valerio Murat, he founded the “Labora Studio”, an incubator and arts production center interconnecting tradition and new technologies in a new intermedial synthesis.
His creative dimension appears as expanded poetry, oriented to decode emotions by integrating different materials and writing techniques. His ideal of beauty tends to simultaneity and the vertigo of a multiple vision.
His works have won prestigious awards at international festivals and institutions.
Venice Biennale; IRCAM C. Pompidou; Experimental Film and Video, Seoul; MACRO, Rome; New York University; European Media Art Festival, Osnabrueck; Traverse Video, Toulouse; Videoformes, Clermont-Ferrand; Zebra Poetry Award, Berlin; INVIDEO International Art Video , Milan; Digital Video Art Exhibition, Beijing; Caldas University, Colombia; and many more.
«I’ve known Antonio Poce for over 40 years. He is a composer who combines a brilliant musical skill with a practice of visual arts developed over time. This largely gives account of his adopting intermediality as a paradigm of his aesthetic research. His art is a synthesis of the teachings of tradition and the huge potential offered by new technologies, being oriented towards a total integration of all artistic disciplines».
